Volunteer

• Victim Support volunteers meet with clients after our Welfare Officers have met with them to assess needs. The volunteers provide emotional support and advice to help them through this period. They usually work from our office in Douglas.

The average time commitment for Victim Support Volunteers is 1-2 hours per week.

• Witness Service volunteers work within the courts, supporting victims and witnesses as their cases come to trial, accompanying them into court, advocating on their behalf, and conducting pre-trial court familiarisation visits. They can also help by attending court to gather information for victims and witnesses, when the clients cannot attend themselves.

The average time commitment for Witness Service Volunteers requires them to be available for at least half a day at a time, ideally weekly.

• Administration volunteers can assist the team with office related tasks. This can include filing, scanning, updating our client management systems, marketing and any other project work that comes along.

There is no average time commitment for Administration Volunteers although most of our volunteers can offer 2-4 hours at a time.

• Fundraising volunteers are needed to help organise fundraising activities and events, as well as helping with the maintenance of our collection tins. They work with our office team and the Board to organise and attend events and other fundraising/awareness activities.

There is no average time commitment for Fundraising Volunteers but meetings and events will most likely take place outside of office hours, availability at weekends and in the evenings will be required.

Please note that you will not be able to volunteer as a Victim Support or Witness Service Volunteer if you are currently experiencing any significant life events or have done so in the preceding 12 months.  However you can still apply for the other roles in the meantime.

All our volunteers receive induction training, and those working with clients in any capacity will undertake an initial training programme to provide them with the skills needed to work with our clients, and will be encouraged to attend further training and workshops on an on-going basis.

Young Volunteers

Our Victim Support and Witness Service Volunteers must be aged over 18.

However we are very happy to consider applications from young people aged 16-18 years for administration and fundraising volunteer roles.  Please remember that volunteering is a great way to gain experience and could really help with college, university and job applications.
